German linguist Henning Lobin nailed it when he describes the presentation of Apple products as a quasi-religious ceremony:

 

"Everything culminates in the presentation of the product by Steve Jobs. The Apple boss, clad in sneakers and jeans, acts like a sort of modern priest, that communicates the message of salvation to the assembled congretation. In San Francisco it looks like this: black screen, spherical lighting, and the iPad on an altar, like a holy grail. The scenery has clear spiritual overtones. The presentation, which has become a static ritual over the years, is cult-like and one of the roots of Apple's success."
